On Sickness

I still remember the last time I fell sick. It was unpleasant and humiliating. Unpleasant because I had to endure pain. A lot of pain. Humiliating because I had to get exposed to the doctor's curiosity regarding my daily habits.

It was tough to be sick especially when you're far away frm your immediate family. And all you can do is texting them from elsewhere.

But I realize that sickness, illness, or ailment is not something to detest completely.

A sickness is an effort of the body to achieve balance once again after a lot of disturbance.

Imagine we're eating something containing bacteria and we get diarrhea afterwards. Diarrhea itself is called sickness but it is actually not the opposite of being healthy. The diarrhea itself is part of the healing process of the body and the entire system to regain its balance. Thus, what we call sickness is in fact helpful for us to be healthy once again.

The same concept also applies to any other cases in life. Whether it be death versus life, or rich versus poor, etc. They're not bipolar, but complementary to each other. They're inseperable and thus essential to each other.

Thefeore, from now on, whenever we impulsively think sickness as something hateful and horrible, understand that this is no longer a foe to defeat altogether but something to embrace. (*/ akhlispenulis@gmail.com)
